How to reach us
Zagorohoria, the villages of Zagori as they are collectively called, are found up on the eastern and central Pindos mountains, on the Epirus region of Greece. Modern highways connect the area with the Athens and Thessaloniki international airports, while twomore international airports (Corfu and Aktion) are just a short car ride away!
The directions below refer to car driving, though national buses follow the same routes. If you are going to drive during the winter, make sure to check the latest weather and road closures announcements and to have snow chains suitable for your car.
From Athens: there are two routes towards Zagorohoria, both by modern highways, both offering opportunities for interesting stops along the way. In both cases the drive is slightly less than 500km.
Option A: Through Patras, at the Peloponnese. Take A8 (part of the E55 – E65 European route) from Athens towards Patras, then, before entering Patras, cross the gulf of Corinth at Rio, either by the Rio – Antirio bridge (an engineering feat and a beautiful sight) or by ferry. Continue towards Ioannina (A5/E951). Upon reaching Ioannina you can either take the ring road around the city or drive through, to reach Zagorohoria.
Option B: Through mainland Greece and Meteora. Take A1/E75 towards Lamia, thenturn to A3 towards Karditsa, Trikala and eventually Kalambaka (the village at the foot of Meteora). From there, follow E92 towards EgnatiaOdos (A2/E90), then turn towards Metsovo / Ioannina. Upon reaching Ioannina you can either take the ring road around the city or drive through, to reach Zagorohoria.
From Thessaloniki: the modern EgnatiaOdos (A2/E90) is at your service, to take you from Thessaloniki to Ioannina. Upon reaching Ioannina you can either take the ring road around the city or drive through, to reach Zagori. The route is around 300km.
From Aktion: if you arrive at Aktion International Airport, you have two routes to reach Zagori: either follow the west coastal national road 18/E55 towards Igoumenitsa, then take EgnatiaOdos (A2/E90) towardsIoannina, or drive halfway around the gulf of Amvrakikos on national road 21 to meet A5/E951, then follow that towards Ioannina. At Ioannina you can either take the ring road around the city or drive through, to reach Zagori. The second route totals 140 km, while the first is about 180km long.
From Corfu or Igoumenitsa: Zagorohoria are a short drive away from Igoumenitsa, around 120km depending on your final destination. Just follow EgnatiaOdos (A2/E90) towards Ioannina, then either take the ring road or drive through the city to reach Zagori. From Corfu, you can take the ferry to Igoumenitsa – the crossing takes about an hour and there are numerous crossings every day.
